The plan of Taiwan's Quanta Computer Do. to develop an new
township in Shanghai, east coast of China, has won warm response
from Taiwan enterprises that plan to set up business operations
in the new town.
Chairman Lin Pai-li of Quanta Computer has purchased an area
of 1,800 acres of land at an export processing zone in Shanghai.
The company has designated the project as "Quanta Shanghai
Manufacture City".
Quanta will use 800 acres of the area as its new global computer
manufacturing center. It also issued invitations to several
hundreds of supplying companies in Taiwanto use the remain
area of 1,000 acres.
Quanta expects the project will become a model for Taiwan
companies that move manufacturing operations abroad but keep
business roots as well as research & developing, sales
and marketing in Taiwan.
Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., which is currently engaged
in aggressive expansion in China, and many other companies
have expressed keen interested in taking part in the project
led by Quanta.
In addition to manufacturing plants, "Quanta City"
will also have department stores, supermarkets, movie theaters,
and other facilities.
