Acer Communications & Multimedia (ACM) at Computex unveiled prototypes
of their M610 and M510 multi-functin peripherals, which combine
scanning, printing and photocopying functions,. The models differ
in that the M510 has to be used with a computer. Both are scheduled
for volume production in September. The resolutions for the MFP'scanner
and printer functions are 600 dpi and 1,200 dpi, respectively. Since
the same company supplies printing engines to most MFP manufacturers
in Taiwan, product quality should not vary greatly. ACM believes
price and function will the main factors in consumer purchasing
decisions in the future. It will focus on adding Internet functions
to its MFPs, the company said.
ACM is actively developing photo printers as well. MFPs are expected
to be the company`s bread-and-butter before photo printers and digital
cameras take off
