VIA Technologies Inc., a leading chip designer of Taiwan, said
that many of Taiwan's computer manufacturers would introduce new
notebook computers using its C3 and Twister chipsets in July.
Due to the cheaper processor as compared to the competition, the
company said that these notebook computers would cost only between
the equivalents of US$ 937 and US$ 1,250.
The new VIA C3 is a socket 370 compatible, low power processor
targeting the rapidly growing market for value PCs, information
PCs, notebooks, and PC digital appliances.
The C3 has a clock frequency of 733 MHz, comes with 128 Level 1
cache, and 64 KB Level 2 cache, 100/133 MHZZ front side bus support,
and 3D Now! Instructions for enhanced Multimedia. Performance. It
runs a full range of Windows operating systems and almost all of
the world's popular computer programs
