Executives of Premier Camera Taiwan Ltd., the world's
biggest camera maker, announced record of NT$ 2 billion in the
first quarter of 2001, down by only 0,2% from last year and said
that they were still able to maintain a profit margin of 13%,
thus resulting in a pretax profit of NT$ 190 million in that time,
leading into earnings per share of NZ$0,67.
The company forecast revenues of NT$ 12 billion
for the whole year and said that sales are expected to become
hectic beginning of second quarter, which is the traditional peak
season for the camera industry.
Therefore, in addition to the firm's new Foshan factory in the
Guandong province of China, Premier has set up three digital camera
production lines in its Neihu plant in Taipei, compared with the
25 lines in the Foshan plant on the mainland.
Meanwhile, Premier estimates that sales if its
digital cameras will hit 1,3 million pieces for the first time
in 2001. The firm also recently merged with a local technology
company in order to further upgrades its digital camera know-how.
