Arima Co. Ltd. remains confident of achieving its goal of selling
two million notebook computers in 2001, despite insiders assessments
of this being unrealistic, since Compaq, the company's long standing
partner, handed a 30,000 unit order for new models to Quanta.
According to local sources, Arima's notebook computer shipment's
in February surpassed 80,000 pieces and will reach 100,000 in
March. In addition a new contract with NEC of Japan is expected
to begin in April. Arima produced 50,000 units for Compaq and
20,000 for NEC in February.
Las October Panasonic handed orders for its all-in-one model
to Arima. The partnership is still in an early stage and thus
the OEM is manufacturing only a few thousand units of this model
a month.
Arima shipped 1.5 million notebook computers last year. Construction
of its Wujiang, Jiangsu province (China) notebook factory should
be completed by June or July and operations start in August
