Iwill Corp. announced that it would soon launch Taiwan's first
double data rate (DDR)-memory motherboard supporting dual Pentium
III (P-III) processors.
Iwill, a leading manufacturer of SCSI motherboards and input/output
(I/O) adapters, is scheduled to begin delivering the new motherboard,
dubbed the DVD266-R, next month.
Iwill said that the DVD266-R adopts VIA's Apollo Pro 266 chipsets
and supports P-III processors in the 500 MHz to 1GHz-plus range,
positioning them for the server and family network markets.
DDR memory has emerged as a serious competitor to the Rambus dynamic
random access memory (RDRAM) specification promoted by the U.S.
chipmaker Intel, a senior official at Iwill said.
The official noted that Iwill beat other motherboard makers in
getting its dual-processor board on the market. Most rival firms
here have demonstrated DDR boards, though only with single-processor
specifications, he said.
Motherboards and interface cards account for 90% and 10% if Iwill's
revenue, respectively, which was the equivalent of US$ 34.1 million
in 2000. Revenue forecast for this year is US$46.4 million, translating
into an increase of 36%.
