Acer Inc., Taiwan's biggest PC maker, expects its brand sales in
the global PC market to increase sharply thanks to the booming Chinese
market. The company also expects to be the world's fifth-largest
manufacturer in 2001, in view of its thriving China investment policy.
According to statistics from International Data Corp ( IDC ) of
the USA, Acer ranked as the world's eight-largest manufacturer of
both desktop and notebook PCs and server products in the first three
quarters of 2000. However, Acer expects its sales of these products
to double in 2001. The company's estimate is based on the high growth
rate in its markets in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, which are expected
to account for 35% of Acer's total revenue next year.
The Acer Group intends to build China as its "home market" for
PCs and related products and expects that the PC market there will
grow to between 6 million and 6.5 million units in 2001, up some
40% compared with this year.
