Due to brisk sales of PDAs (personal digital assistants),
Picvue Electronics Ltd., a major LCD (liquid crystal display)
manufacturer in Taiwan, attained NT$616 million receipts in July,
a new high in recent years, executives of the firm said Tuesday.
The firm's July revenue grew 62% from the same
month a year ago. In the first seven months, the firm's revenue
totaled NT$3.34 billion, up 56% from the same period in 1999.
Picvue has obtained huge PDA orders from international
manufacturers in Europe and the U.S., with sales accounting for
about 400,000 units per month. The company forecasted sales of
mobile phone monitor module sets to reach one million units per
month.
The firm estimates its sales of mobile phone monitor
module sets will increase to 1.5 million per month in the second
half, with the profit margin maintaining a stable level.
The island's LCD industry has been suffering from
shortages of raw materials such as driving ICs in the past few
months, said King Mong-Hsiung, spokesman of the firm. Such sales
will have the opportunity to reach another new high as long as
Picvue is able to ensure supply sources, King said.
The firm expects its PDA sales will maintain a
normal delivery before October, and both revenue and pretax profit
will climb considerably by the end of the year.
