Kingmax Technology Inc. sold DRAM modules for notebook PCs to Sony,
paving the way for the Taiwanese IC memory card maker to become
a long term DRAM module supplier to Sony, executives of the firm
said Monday.
Kingmax began delivering its DRAM modules to Sony in July, with
the sales accounting for 20,000 units per month. This is expected
to help Kingmax become a long term DRAM module supplier for Sony.
Beginning the second half, the supply of DRAM products has been
unable to meet the hectic market demand both at home and abroad.
Several international system manufacturers have already placed long-term
orders with Taiwan memory makers, thus ensuring steady supplies.
As a major DRAM module manufacturer in Taiwan, Kingmax has become
increasingly successful in the supply of its products to Micron
Technology, Gateway, and Dell over the past few years.
Kingmax will use the TinyBGA packaging method, the latest of its
kind for the manufacture of its DRAM modules.
In an attempt to set up an integrated manufacturing system, Kingmax
has already invested NT$1 billion to establish a technology subsidiary
for specialized DRAM packaging services. With a brand name strategy,
Kingmax expects to rank as one of the world's top three specialized
DRAM packaging manufacturers in the future.
