Taipei - - Acer Communications & Multimedia Inc.
( formerly Acer Peripherals Inc.) introduced it's newsly developend
e-generation S2W 4300U network scanner Wednesday in Taipei.
Featuring an easy online function and access to
data banks, the new scanner aims at linking broadband business
in telecom networks. Other features include single keys for Internet
and PDA functions. It's scan button enables software to link with
other office machines.
Formal market introduction is expected for August.
In related news, Acer Inc. announced that it expects
to reach it's forecasted shipment goal of 2 million information
appliances ( Ias) this year. Lin Hsin-ming, the company's general
manager said this figure includes four major product categories:
set-top boxes, Internet phones, Internet servers and personal
digital assistants (PDAs)
Acer is currently working on a delivery of 200.000
Internet personal phones to go to an Australian customer in the
second half of this year. In addition, the company is also Negotiating
with two Mexican and one European telecommunication firms for
the supply of Internet phones.
Moreover, Lind said, Acer had recently found buyers
in Europe for it's PDAs and expects to start delivering them in
the fourth quarter of 2000. He forecasted total exports of PDAs
Between 100.000 and 200.000 for the entire year.
