Chung Hwa Picture Tubes, Ltd., Taiwan's largest CRT maker, will start production of 46-inch PDPs in the third or fourth quarter 2001.

Chung Hwa started planning PDP production early this year with an estimated investment of NT$6 billion. Through technological cooperation with Mitsubisishi Electric of Japan, Chung Hwa has turned out a 46-inch PDP prototype from its laboratories, which is on par with Mitsubishi's products in terms of definition and display quality. Based on the developed manufacturing technology, the estimated inbestment in PDP production is expected to decrease from NT$6 billion.
