Taipei - - Chung Hwa Picture Tubes Ltd., the world's biggest maker
of CRTs, delivered at total of 17 million CRTs in t he first six
months of 2000 and forecasts 30 millions by the end of the year,
a spokesman announced in Taipei.
Chung Hwa is also a major TFT-LCD (thin film transistor liquid
crystal display maker, including displays for notebook PCs, where
Taiwan previously was dependent on deliveries from Japan only.
While sales of conventional CRTs are still the company's mainstay,
Chung Hwa was the first Taiwan maker to go into mass production
of TFT-LCDs last year. Of the total pretax profit of 9,9 billion
Taiwan Dollars forecasted for 2000, 1,6 billion will be reaped from
TFT sales, the company predicted.
