Press Release
Ideal Platform for Disk-to-Disk
Backup, Database and Video Applications

T-win/AIC are pleased to release the latest member
of our Storage Server series of products, RMC5E. This chassis offers
the following important features that will greatly benefit both
you and your customers:
5.25" exposed drive bay - this is something our other Storage
Server chassis RMC2E, RMC3E, or RMC4D are not able to offer. This
feature enables user to use DVD-RW drive to archive data that
is stored on the HDD's, or simply use a table backup device.
New hot-swap blower design from the rear - this feature removes
the fan-crossbar from the chassis, which make cable routing for
24 x HDD's (especially IDE ribbon cables) much easier. The hot-swap
blowers will allow field-replacement done without opening the
top cover, thus greatly reduce cost of maintenance.
Complete rear-exhaust design - pulling air from the back as
opposed to pulling + pushing from the center greatly reduces the
amount of fan/blowers needed to cool the whole system + drives,
which will reduce the noise level and ensure better cooling of
the entire system. There will be less "blind spot" in
the chassis where cannot get proper cooling comparing to the conventional
fan design.
Drive carrier with plastic rail guides - same as our RMC2E and
3E we adopted this design to ensure maximum damping of induced
vibration caused by the other vibrating components, as well as
the vibration from the HDD's themselves. Although we fitted four
drives across each row, we did not compromise our drive carrier
design to ensure the best performance possible.
Reduced width on the bottom to fit ball-bearing rails - unlike
the 2E and 3E where we custom-designed friction rails due to the
width, we have reduced the bottom 1U of our 5U chassis to allow
us to use a heavy-duty ball-bearing rail capable of handing up
to 150 lbs. By making the chassis "not-rectangular",
we have made the structure much stronger and rigid in the longitudinal
direction.
Flexibility on the drive backplane - due to the amount of space
opened up behind the HDD backplanes, we are now capable to offer
all four types of hot-swap backplanes : PATA(IDE), PATA-to-SATA,
SATA, and SCSI (four channels of 6 or two channels of 12).
Optional front bezel - we will offer an optional front bezel
covering the 24 x hot-swap bays to allow user to have their own
logo space. This has been a feature many OEM customers prefer.
Choice on different redundant power supplies - we will offer
both a 3+1 950W HRP or a 2+1+ dummy version at 650W only. This
option will allow user to start with a smaller 650W power supply
and upgrade to 950W when future CPU's that require more power
are available.
