Taiwan at CeBIT2009: Telematics & Navigation
|
|
 |
Dear Reader:
The telematics and navigation exhibition sector on this year's CeBIT
ist quite well represented - if you allow for the seemingly unavoidable
and omnipresent crisis corrections and adjustments. 20 manufacturers from
Taiwan will exhibit at the dedicated TAIWAN PAVILION in Hall 15, with
local exhibitors such as HOLUX, RoyalTek and GlobalSat competing side-by-side
with international famous brand names like Garmin, Buddy, PTV, Navigon,
BURY, ALK, Clarion, u-blos, Blaupunkt and others.
The worldwide telematics market is balanced for continuous growth, with
total production to hit 11,7 million sets by 2011, according to the Telematics
Research Group. Reflecting the robust global industry, Taiwan has about
50 suppliers of telematics-related products, including automatic vehicle
location, portable navigation devices and telematics-embedded products,
of which above 20 made their way to Hannover to represent this field.
The majority of makers in Taiwan concentrate on R&D and QC, with
some having secured licenses for Microsoft, Google and VSRI maps. Some
makers are also developing telematic systems with A-GPS. While some outsource
tooling and molding and sub-supplies, some larger ones complete the whole
assembly process in-house
GPS car navigation system manufacturers in Taiwan are going ahead of
that into the information-entertainment sector, rolling out new units
that support various connectivity technologies, WITH Wi-Fi, Bluetooths
and FM transmitters enabling the interface of onboard A/V, communication
and other electronic devices.
In total: Enough for you as our buyer-readers to see us at CeBIT !
And now for something completely different :
Our e-paper No. 3 touched the indifference of circuitries in today's
ICT products, making buyers and end users hardcore "El Cheapo"
aficionados. However, there is a ray of hope at least on a related sector:
Design !
The passion for sophisticated design has swept Taiwan, which now hosts
many design-related events, while the country's industries for decades
were merely a factor for designs of others. As a country yet do develop
a national design style, the focus is placed on individual designers,
who have won many prestigious international design awards, including Germany
red dot, iF Forum Design Hannover, which is way up front by having its
own subsidiary in Taipei ! Further way down to mention the US IDEA and
Japan's G-Mark for outstanding achievements in Design.
Whichexhibitors at CeBIT 2009 will show such outstanding products ? I
won't tell you - - simply because this a promotional publication, with
one of its purposes being to lure you to travel to Hannover for a hands-on
experience, despite of the seemingly perennial crisis grumble.
CeBIT 2009 Hannover - - let's
make the best out of it !
Yours truly,
And here, some previews from our exhibitors:
