Taiwan at CeBIT 2008: Mobile Phones, Bluetooth and Accessories

Mobile Phones
Unlike other ICT sectors , a dominating influence of Taiwan mobile phones on the global market is not so obvious because the origins of the world's few big mobile phone brands handsets are of lesser interest to the general public than, i.e. notebook computers. Graphic example: In 2007, Nokia shipped 473.1 million mobile phones and attained a commanding 38% share of the world market - - but would YOU know where all of them had been made ?
According to 2007 figures released so far, Taiwan shipments of mobile phones are expected to have dropped 20,1% or to just 97.4 million pieces in comparison with 2006, mainly due to the poor performance of the industry's major client Motorola and the effect of the spectacular BenQ – Siemens breakup.
Due to difficulties in expanding business with the five major international brands, Taiwan contract production manufacturers have switched their efforts to seeking private-label orders from telecom carriers, including establishing successful business connection with such exotic providers as Indian Reliance. Meanwhile, after abandoning the BenQ own brand manufacturing business, the new brand Qisda will also shift the focus of its contract-production operations to the telecom sector in Western Europe.
Furthermore,Taiwan manufacturers are pinning their hopes on the proliferation of smartphones - - those sophisticated thingamabobs that are actually souped-up PDAs. They allow you to receive pictures, movies, TV and radio signals of different standards, display GPS, connect to WLAN , take photos, store data, and, surprise of surprises, still allow you to also make telephone calls. Global shipments of such smartphones are expected to top 195 million units in 2008, accounting for 16% of the world total, up from 149 million in 2007, according to Taipei-based Digitimes Research - - and Taiwan factories or, more precisely, Taiwan-controlled local and offshore factories are expecting their OEM / ODM / OBM share of the pie. Shipment orders for 7.47 million units in 1Q08 are already booked, according to local media.
The Internet has not only had a dramatic effect on consumers media expectations which demand data, voice and video services but also on the business sector, as systems are upgraded and companies add WLAN and SAN, increase wireless security and look to VLAN solutions. As the sudden surge of interest in broadband access increases and data communication are converging wired and wireless equipments, our exhibitors will show solutions for this emerging market.
At CeBIT 2008, we present two TAIWAN PAVILIONS covering wireless communication and mobile phone accessories, in Hall 16 and Hall 26.
The shining star this year seems to be E-Ten , established in 1985 and ever since grown to become a world distinguished designer and manufacturer of smart handheld convergence devices. In 2006, E-Ten established its brand name Glofiish for its pocket PC phones. This year, the sensational new arrival is V900, a mobile TV supporting PDA. Powered by a Samsung Electronics 667 MHz processor and Windows Mobile 6, it supports reception of DVB-H, DVB-T, T-DMB abd DAB broadcasts in addition to a 3.5G phone and a 3,2 megapixel camera !
Computer titan ASUS will also point up a smartphone, P750, featured as "Your perfect business companion with high speed data transfer" offering connectivity to networks including HSDPA, WLA and USB and a SIRF-III GPS Module.
Huey Chiao says on its homepage: "We are looking for distributors in each country to market our bluetooth. We do not mind the size of your organization but the enthusiasm in sharing good quality !" So, if you qualify, please visit them and see no less than 39 different bluetooth headsets, 5 bluetooth stereo headsets in addition to bluetooth stereo transmitters and GPS receivers. GG Telecom is a similar supplier of Bluetooth headsets, access points, USB dongles and car kits, as well as our exhibitor Great Well.
