Taiwan at CeBIT 2007: Networking, Fixed-Line Communication, IPTV, VoIP, WiFi, WLAN & Co.

Dear Reader:
The communication sector is gaining momentum at CeBIT, and in 2007 it shows again: Halls No. 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 are devoted to and fully occupied for this topic. The respective TAIWAN PAVILIONS will be located in Hall 13 and stretch over the passage between Halls 14/15.
Taiwan plays a major role in all of these sectors as local news indicate: Taiwan-based EMS ( electronic manufacturing service companies ) like Foxconn and other major IT companies such as Asustek all have built up strong manufacturing capabilities for WLAN devices, limiting the growth potential of Taiwan-based pure-play WLAN makers.
Intel's January 24 launch of its Next-Gen Wireless-N technology for Intel-based laptop PCs, which is based on the draft 802.11n wireless specification, is expected to inject new impetus into net network equipment market and drive shipment growth for draft-n products, according to sources at Taiwan WLAN-devices vendors. An immediate impact on the production of local network-equipment makers are adjustments of their product mix to include the draft-n modules in addition to the previous focus on the 802,1b/g modules.
International players such as Motorola, Alvarion and Airspan Networks have sought out partnership deals with several big Taiwan-based network-equipment makers, according to sources. In the past, the international makers seldom worked with more than one network equipment partner.
An increasing number pf Taiwan equipment suppliers have gotten involved in development of office WIMAX ( Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access ) wireless equipment such as transceiver stations in anticipation of orders from international heavyweight suppliers ( So, don't disappoint them and come to CeBIT to order !! )
Meanwhile, due to continuing growth in the IPTV service market and continuing growth of contract-production orders released by major international vendors, Taiwan IP STP shipment volume is expected to hit a year-on-year growth rate of 47,7%, according to the Market Intelligence Center of the Taiwan-based Institute for Information Industry.
And then, there is the VoIP sector, where even laymen have no difficulty in seeing triple digit growth rates coming forward this year because it makes telephone costs virtually becoming freebees for the end users in Europe, America and Asia . Local soothsayers expect the VoIP market grow to USD 55M this year and to USD 110M in 2009, with a tenfold increase to be reached after five years.
Registrations for CeBIT are still pouring in even at this late date, and the list of famous Taiwan names so far include Wistron, ZyXEL, Aten, SparkLAN, Micronet, Connection, JYH ENG in halls 14/15/16 and Universal Microelectronics, D-Link, Accton, SerCom, and Welltech in hall 13.
Mind you, that our last e-paper, approximately two weeks prior to CeBIT opening, will contain a complete guide to the TAIWAN PAVILIONS and to our services for buyers and the press. So, please bear with us to the end and keep watching your Inbox !
An now for something completely different:
“Deutsche Journalisten arbeiten im Entlehnsessel am Abschreibtisch” .
Sorry folks, but this sentence is to enlighten our German language readers only, first of all as this game in words cannot be translated, and secondly because it pertains to a seemingly specific German way of working. It basically means that today's convenient Internet press search engines make it easy for all kinds of B-rated scribblers to stay home and specialize in an easy “after hash” journalism, working straight from their coffee tables, which should better be re-named “copy tables”.
Of course, salaries for staffers and word rates for freelancers are low these days. But so they were at the time of Emile Zola, when the world's finest stories were written on empty stomachs and the backside of paper napkins. But work ethics have changed, so why not just retaliate instead and punish readers by economizing?
Hence, news from Germany coming your way to the far corners of the world about great changes going on at CeBIT in terms of streamlining, restructuring and adjusting this great event to the needs of tomorrow's B2B requirements are scarce at best with solid facts far and between.
You, our typical reader, a weather-beaten hard-core hardware buyer, will have no time for bullshit, and neither have I. Therefore, let's follow last year's pattern in the run-up to CeBIT and simply publish the organizer's related press releases in the “Headline News” section of our homepage - - like good bourbon, right from the barrel, full-strength and with all the original flavor, before you get it from around several corners, distorted and blown out of proportion. There are six stories today, and more to come, so stay tuned to www.taiwan-technology.com
Great things are going on for CeBIT 2008, and when you come this year, you might already feel the future, mixed with the last remnants of a glorious past.
Don't miss it!
And here, some previews from our exhibitors:
