Taiwan ICT in midsummer : It's half-time between two CeBITs ! |
|
 |
Dear Reader:
What separates the ICT business from Tourism ? There is no slack season in a year. ! Therefore, this e-paper, published half-time between two CeBITs should find everybody extremely busy:
First of all, our exhibitors, who work day and night to fulfill all the orders they collected during the most important seven days of the year - - the seven days of CeBIT Hannover. Secondly you, our valued readers and visitors from 120 countries, who came to Hannover to buy their fine goods and now distribute them to the far sides of the world. And, last not least, our Hannover Pacific Corp., already working at full capacity to prepare the TAIWAN PAVILIONS for CeBIT 2007.
In retrospective, CeBIT 2006 again confirmed that, regardless of all electronic sophistication in B2B communication, the best and most efficient data transfer is still from face-to-face ! The intangible atmosphere of a trade show cannot be substituted and thus solidifies the role of CeBIT as the undisputed ICT world market.
Apart from the atmosphere, statistics confirm it: 6,262 exhibiting companies including 3,305 from 70 foreign countries faced 450,000 visitors of which close to 90% were qualified trade professionals - - these consolidated figures are all the more impressive today, considering that the ICT business erupted from scratch only two decades ago under birth pains: With the unbridled gold rush mentality of pioneer years, with growth rates blown out of proportion, with wheat that had to be separated from the chaff, with a bubble that inevitably had to burst, and bunches of fortune-hunters ending up in oblivion or in cells.
If interested in past performance, please download the closing reports for CeBIT 2006 from the ˇ§Headline Newsˇ¨ section of our homepage.
Meanwhile, how will CeBIT 2007 look with regard to Taiwan ?
If international research companies are to believed, the automotive electronics industry is a deliciously fast-growing field with generated global revenues already now two times higher than notebook PC revenues. With revenue expectations to grow to over US$ 160 billion by 2008, many in Taiwan ˇV both in the automotive and the IT industry as well ˇV are looking at automotive electronics as the next potential Taiwan success story.
Two mini trade shows in Taipei, the first one in April this year, another one to come up in August, are indicative of this trend, which might emerge to full size exposures at CeBIT Hannover 2007, the better place to investigate new markets. Car electronic supply chains in North America, Europe or Japan are rigid, as automobile manufacturers will spend as much as five years assessing new suppliers. Therefore, Taiwan may start the trend by concentrating on ˇ§low-endˇ¨ component-level products than on the system level that would require building up close integration with the vehicle manufacturers.
This e-paper is neither the place nor in time to elaborate on this, but please watch your inbox for more in our series of ˇ§Taiwan at CeBIT 2007ˇKˇ¨ preparatory e-papers, starting around November. .
Furthermore, as office product markets near saturation, IT manufacturers and research organizations are looking at bringing more information technology into the household by stressing ˇ¨digital homeˇ¨, the prime catchword of CeBIT 2006. With its highly developed ICT industry, Taiwan is believed to have a strong opportunity to become a leading player in this market, and both the government and the private sector are working aggressively toward this end.. The report ˇ§Digital Home ˇV the Main driver for Asian Tech in 2006ˇ¨ , released by CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets in January, affirms Taiwan's prospects to be a key source of supply for the digital home market. Also on this, there will be more in coming e-papers.
