This 5 th e-paper for CeBIT will advise you three times to switch to our homepage for extended news. That permits me to be brief here and, at the same time, make it clear how our publication functions:

Having said that, let me turn your attention to Taiwan at CeBIT 2006. See our homepage for the headline story "Taiwan ICT Trend Analysis" which, in a nutshell, says:
Taiwan was, still is, and probably will continue to be the world's number one source for all major categories of ICT hardware, and a close second for the rest. This will be especially obvious if you visit the TAIWAN PAVILIONS in Halls 19, 22 and 23.
Hunting for PC systems in Hall 22 it will be impossible to ignore Micro-Star ( on 450 sqm floor space ! ) and Elitegroup, and in Hall 23 Gigabyte ( on 350 sqm !) Foxcom ( on 429 sqm !), then Aopen, Silicon Integrated and VIA, furthermore motherboard specialists ABIT, Asrock and DFI. For the Input Devices category let me drop names like Zippy, Key Mouse, Ezkey and Chic Technology. Major PC case makers are: In Win, Linkworld, Lian Li, Enermax, I-China, JNC. Other component suppliers such as coolers, memory modules and servers are: Cooler Master, Glacial Tech, Intervideo, Golden Emp, Inventec; plus Ulead for software. The TAIWAN PAVILION in Hall 23 will feature the makers of graphic and sound cards.
And now for something completely different:
Why do most journalists usually hate to publish corporate press releases and thus deprive you of extended news about what awaits you at CeBIT, the world's biggest trade show? I gave this phenomenon the benefit of my thoughts and found out one major reason: The Betty Crocker Syndrome !
To know what that is, you must go back 80 years, when General Mills tried to find out why American housewives stubbornly resisted to buy their oven-ready "Betty Crocker cake mixes". They hired Dr. Ernest Dichter, the Austrian psychologist and founding father of consumer motivation research, who discovered that housewives felt deeply guilty when having to create a cake from a ready mix that required nothing from them but to just add water. They missed a feeling of achievement ! Dr. Dichter advised General Mills to delete egg powder from its cake mix and instead over-emphasize the importance of the housewives' role in adding the right number of fresh eggs at their own discretion - - and suddenly, the market acceptance was there !
It seems that most journalists suffer from that Betty Crocker Syndrome. They always try and take perfectly edited ready-to-print corporate press releases, cut them apart, boil them down, delete essentials, swap paragraphs, change headlines, twist the facts, and – more often then not – add "fresh eggs" that smell of blatant ignorance.
Do such occasional news fragments in the papers have much impact on you ? I doubt it. Therefore, as we have no feeling of guilt and do not need a sense of achievements to boost our self esteem, our solution to fill the information gap is as simple as it is efficient:
