IT's CeBIT Time - - in Istanbul ! |

Dear Reader:
Today's e-paper is closely targeted to raise special interest group's awareness for CeBIT Eurasia Bilisim 2004, Eurasia's largest information and communication technologies fair in Istanbul, Turkey, in the first week of September. So all others of our worldwide subscribers may now hit the "delete" button or just hang on for a brief historical background of this remarkable event:
Istanbul (or still Constantinople to old furts like me), once the largest and most splendid city of Old Europe preserving the glories and vicissitudes of the Byzantine Empire, has seen strong foreign encounters during its fateful past: Among many, it was first besieged in the year of 34 by Mu'awiya, son of Abi Sufyan, during the Khilafa of ‘Ali bin Abi Taleb (may Allah be pleased with him !), and last in 182 during the Khilafa of Harun al Rashid ( may Allah have mercy on him! ); again in 1204 by the Army of the Fourth Crusade, while in 1353 the Ottoman Empire succeeded in its great leap forward to Europe.
And finally, in 2000, at the start of the new millennium, pin-stripe uniformed mercenaries from Deutsche Messe AG, the world's biggest trade fair company, sallied forth from Hannover, crossed the threshold of Istanbul and infiltrated Eurasia's technological capital by joining forces with the Turkish INTERPRO Group, which, among its many talents, organized "Bilisim", a well established decade-old local ICT show.
The new joint venture company, HFI A.S.( acronym for "Hannover Fairs INTERPRO" ), jointly upgraded and relaunched the venerable Bilisim, henceforth to be known as "CeBIT eurasia Bilisim" on a truly international scale.
Now in its 4th year, CeBIT eurasia Bilisim can pride itself with a well-earned reputation of having become the largest and most influential ICT trade show in Eurasia in particular and one of the leading and most solidly managed ICT shows in general, justifiably the jewel in the garland of CeBIT Hannover's offshore events.
2003 reaped 752 exhibitors from 20 countries, among them first-rate names, on 23,287 sqm net exhibition space and 153,729 visitors from 64 countries, covered by a press corps of 1,616. Estimates for 2004 call for 800 exhibitors on 24,000 sqm, 160,000 visitors from 65 countries and 1,300 accredited journalists.
Parallel to the six day show from August 31 to September 5, the "Bilisim Summit", a three day congress, will offer added value by providing high-level information from leading industry experts, discussion panels, workshops and press conferences. And not to forget what the organizers call "enjoyable get-togethers", social events - - most important in this part of the world where ice and snow are as rare as honest politicians, trade decidedly follows its very own rules and face-to-face encounters, conducive to business, are even more essential than in Asia.
The Taiwan contingent to CeBIT Eurasia Bilisim 2004 includes names such as Bitspower, Draytek, ETI, Hahntek, High Quality, KYE, Posiflex and Tul.
