Dear Reader:
It is one more week only to CeBIT America, and you must either
be living in a distance not too far from New York for last
minute intentions, or you belong to the prime target audience
that this event is made for: Decision makers who know a good
thing when they see it and able to make up their minds in
an instant. The event is worth it, given the final shape of
this remarkable, tightly focused summit for insiders of the
ICT sector.
For the second year, the Javits Center, New York City, from
May 25 - 27 will comprise the best of the world's suppliers
of software, hardware, Internet solutions, networking and
communications, as well as business applications and services
for the enterprise. As the premier business-to-business event
in the U.S., it is primarily designed to assist customers
in solving the businesses challenges and driving future success.
CeBIT America is focused exclusively on CIOs, senior IT management,
CFOs, COOs, CEOs and divisional management, with tightly controlled
attendee criteria, and a conference programming that is planned
around senior management concerns and decision makers from
all industries.
Skimming through the final edition of the bountiful 32-page
visitor brochure, it seems that the list of companies and
institutions which registered their executives as attendees
reads like a "Who is Who" of corporate America,
and that from all sectors of industry, business, consulting
and the media. And the partial "sample list" of
speakers to address this superb audience covers no less than
72 names, which will require selective planning and make you
hasten from meeting to meeting during this fast-paced 3-day
event.
In addition to the conference, the exhibition floor's roughly
350 companies decidedly emphasize to demonstrated complex
problem solutions and consulting services, with hardware coming
next in number, and Taiwan is, of course, among the 15 international
pavilions .
No further sampling needed here, the information ready on
the Internet is available better than I can do here; just

then click the button ".pdf library" ( it is rather
hidden in the upper right corner! ), and you will be instantly
rewarded with a long list of of download offers, of which
the first one is the 32 page visitor brochure mentioned above,
with enough contents for a full weekend's poolside reading.
And, mind you, there is only one weekend left between you
and the show.
And now for something completely different:
Writing e-papers is a severe challenge for this senior editor
of 40 years experience in the paper print era. The Internet
age provides information so broad that it can no longer go
deep, according to today's whizkids. So they advise "
never use a sentence longer that four lines to develop a thought,
because readers arriving at the end of it may have already
forgotten how it began."
So, sorry, I wrongly closed last e-paper too short and blunt,
saying Americans justify high attendance fees from their pioneer
time heritage "Equal opportunity for everybody, based
on the ability to pay ! " while here in Asia you can
sneak into nearly everything on the strength of a bloated
name card, provided you look like a VIP from the neck downward.
But that is only part of the story:
When a trade fair organizer lays his emphasis on a heavy-weight
conference program for the business elite plus top-level speakers
as a first priority, with a compact trade show coming as a
close second, his revenue can no longer be derived from stand
rentals alone. Quality must cost. This sets the CeBIT brand
apart from so many me-too-shows, which lump together as many
knick knack exhibitors as they can and add some token lectures
as an icing on the cake - - and these more often than not
by corporate marketers, only too eager to toot their own horns
free charge.
Having thus set the record straight, my last year's head
line "CEBIT America - - an event to set new standards
" still holds.
