Frankly, headlines must attract attention
- - businessmen decide within a second wether to read on or
to press "delete".
A year ago, I used the captivating caption "CeBIT America
2003 - - an event to set new standards !" as an introduction
to an inaugural event that still had to prove its worth in
the hardest competitive snake pit you can think of, the congress
and trade fair panorama in the United States of America !
When the first CeBIT America closed its gates, it seemed
that the advance laurels had substantiated , and it is now
this editor's duty and pleasure to direct your attention to
the sequel, CeBIT America 2004, to be held May 25 - 27 in
the same location, the Javits Center in downtown Manhattan,
New York City.
But why " a trade show not a for everybody ?" Because
the nature of this event is what American business likes most
and where other ICT show organizers often fail: To provide
a scenario full of atmosphere conducive to a high-level B2B
summit meeting with a selected audience; strictly an affair
where everybody not being a business insider would disturb
as much as a lighthouse in a bowling alley.
CeBIT America seems to be on the best way to the leading
Information & Communication Technology event for the Enterprise
Business Marketplace - - combining a broad-based mix of products
and services to provide insight, information and answers to
all of your enterprise technology needs. The organizing team
of this world-class event aims to bring together buyers and
sellers of Information & Communication Technologies to
share industry perspectives, to network and - last not least
- to conduct business.
CeBIT America offers a compact exhibiton floor as a supplement
to a vast conference program, designed to provide a fresh
look at ICT technologies and its application problems in day-to-day
business, and to assist you in making informed decisions with
latest strategic direction on industry trends and best practices
in business solutions.
Here, in a nutshell, is a sampling of what the organizers
say you can expect:
- Interaction with around 350 companies
- Thought-provoking keynote addresses from industry giants
and trend-setters
- A program of thought-provoking forum sessions and tutorials
by industry experts
- Unprecedented opportunities for networking and relationship
building with
industry visionaries, influencers and peers.
- Your involvement in special programs by "Best of
Breed Partners" including
DCI's, CRM Conference, BusinessWeek, NetworkWorld, The Business
Council
of the United Nations, Wall Street Technology Association
(WSTA) and Women in
Technology International (WITI)

While I said that expert events of this kind in America decidedly
lay emphasis on their congress programs and accentuate personal
encounters, none of these participants could implement his
high-flying ideas without a basic knowledge of the hardware
market, and this is where the trade show floor comes in. There,
ICT companies from Taiwan for the second time will brave their
peers from all over the world, be it on Hannover Pacific's
"Taiwan Pavilion" or as individual exhibitors. To
exercise som names-dropping: There is the I-Star Computer
Company, one of Taiwan's leaders in switching power supplies,
Sun Light E Technology, a dye and pigment specialist with
ink and inkjet cartridges, looking for OEM business, Bitspower
International with Thermal products, cold cathode light kits,
strobe fans and other PC accessories, GlacialTech Inc. with
an extensive line of peripheral products, Wilicom Co. Ltd,
the DVB Application Specialist, and many others.

complexity of this fast-paced, fact-filled three day event
you have to exercise patience to navigate yourself through
many levels of information and to retrieve the 3-day conference
schedule with its diverse tracks. But if you belong to those
circles CeBIT America is targeting, it should be worth the
while.
As usual with American events of this level, expect attendance
fees that hurt: While in Asia a bona fide VIP face and an
appropriate title on a plausible namecard will suffice as
a gate pass to most exhibition venues, the natives of God's
own country pride themselves on their more down-to-earth legacy:
