Dear Reader:
The show is over, and it was the best show
of recent years !
Much as a pilgrimage to Mecca is mandatory for Muslims, ICT
aficionados every March flock to a technological Mecca of
their own: the epic CeBIT fairground, and nothing can stop
them, as the German news magazine SPIEGEL online quoted a
visitor as saying:
" Worse than March in Germany is March in Hannover;
and worse than March in Hannover is March at CeBIT. A journey
to this bleak, wind-beaten plot of land at the end of the
universe by light green toy-like tram cars is hardly more
desirable than an expedition to Antarctica. But even polar
explorations can wake yearnings in human beings, and so every
year in March I am seized by the irrational desire to put
on warm clothing and sally forth to Hannover..."
And quite so they all came this year, to a streamlined, spirited
event with a most optimistic atmosphere. In contrast to other
sectors of the economy, it was evident that business is back
to the ICT sector, and an upbeat mood at one of the best CeBITs
ever confirmed it.

For those of you who were there it will be a fond remembrance,
while procrastinators may see what they missed. And for those
few export-oriented Taiwan manufacturers who have not exhibited
at CeBIT so far, it may serve as an encouragement for CeBIT
2005 to top the list of this year's 709 Taiwan exhibitors,
which again mustered the most numerous foreign contingent
at this world's biggest trade show.
