Dear Reader:
For the third year in a row it is my pleasure to brief you on CeBIT
Asia in Shanghai. The time: September 18 -21. The venue: the Shanghai
New International Exhibition Center, a Sino-Germany joint venture
and China's most advanced trade fair ground.
And a pleasure it is, because the recent success of CeBIT America
has shown again that there is reason behind Deutsche Messe AG's
policy of hosting offshore events, one on each continent, of it's
major trade shows on their home turf Hannover. As all continents
have their very own tradition and perception of what trade shows
means to their businesses, the challenge to Hannover's CeBIT team
was to develop for them trade shows in their own right, apart from
CeBIT Hannover's epic dimensions.
America is a case in point. It showed this year at the first CeBIT
America in New York, where a top level audience, charcoal-filtered
through qualification checks and hefty participaction fees, got
down to business American style in secluded high-level intimacy.
It showed at CeBIT Australia, and it will show again in Shanghai,
where an anticpated attendance of 50.000 will be attracted by some
400 international exhibitors and a meaningful ancillary program
for one narrow-focused task:
The prime target of CeBIT Asia and its exhibitors is the People's
Republic of China, one of the world's fastest growing ICT markets.
Not an easy job at all, facing the vast size of that country, its
population in excess of 1,2 billion with infrastructure, logistic,
information customs and mentality problems to match.
This year, China is expected to pass Japan as the world's biggest
PC market (outstripped only by the USA) . More than 50 million Chinese
have access to the Internet, up from only half a million six years
ago, Cellphone networks and wireless LANs have become firmly estabished
in China's big cities. Mobile communication is the wave of the future
to bridge the enormous distances of this vast country.
Right from the start, CeBIT Asia became China's prime ICT show,
though having to go through necessary improvements. The significance
of this third CeBIT Asia is recognized by the impressive number
of supporting national and international organisations and sponsors
- - please see all details on the organizer's website mentioned
below.
To supplement the trade show, the ancillary program will include
attractions such as
- the Future Parc @ CeBIT Asia 2003
- the Linux and Open Source Exchange @ CeBIT Asia 2003
- the E-Banking Zone @ CeBIT Asia 2003
- the iF Design Award @ CeBIT Asia 2003
- the Sino - German Forum
- smartAppoint, an Online business matchmaking service in advance
of the show, allowing real-time scheduling of business appointments
to maximise your business potential by ensuring you meet the right
people with undivided attention. smartAppoint will even provide
you with SMS or e-mail notification, practically an "early
morning call " to remind you of your appointment one day
in advance !
As smartAPPOINT and some other programs require prior registration,
please do so by contacting the organizer's website at www.CeBIT-Asia.com
. This re-launched website is truly full of information, so take
some time to click through its many levels and then use extreme
haste to wear in that path to your travel agent!
With plane tickets and hotel reservations in hand, watch out for
the second and last edition of this newsletter with the latest infos
closer to the show.
CeBIT Shanghai and COMPUTEX Taipei: Two Insights for the Price
of One!
Due to SARS, the traditional June Computex 2003 was rescheduled
to Sept. 22-26, while CeBIT Asia takes place from Sept. 18-21.
If you are a buyer of Asian ICT products, this close timing offers
you a brilliant opportunity to visit both events in sequence, for
not much more than the price of one business trip! To do so, should
help influence your future buying strategies. Because there can't
be more difference than between these two shows:
On COMPUTEX, Taiwan targets buyers from all over the world, while
on CeBIT Asia, the world's ICT countries target the market of China.
That is, at the moment. However, time does not stand still. In the
West, the gigantic Hannover fair ground plays a role as a major
trade fair center for the whole world. But no country East of Suez
Canal can claim to be the major trade fair center for all of Asia.
Again, at the moment! In China, Shanghai authorities are working
on developing that area as the Asian ICT manufacturing and business
location. Will that policy lead to the first Asian trade fair center
as a consequence? My advice: See CeBIT Asia prior to COMPUTEX, soak
in the atmosphere, and judge for yourself!
And now for something completely different:
Since my last newsletter, many new subscribers joined TAIWAN TECHNOLOGY,
our Online, print and CD-ROM search engine and news service, published
by Hannover Pacific Corporation, the Taipei-based marketing service
company and official representative of Deutsche Messe AG with its
worldwide trade fairs.
To ensure competence, TAIWAN TECHNOLOGY is strictly limited to
headline news and product informations conducive to establishing
business relations between Taiwan's ICT industry and the rest of
the world. So, here again is our imaginary masthead:
TAIWAN-TECHNOLOGY
A periodic periodical
Aimed at the world to promote the industry of Taiwan
Published in the sole interest of profit
Why not make it a habit to visit us on a regular basis?
