Dear Reader:
Dear U.I.P.R.E. members:
Dear trade press colleagues:
"Now more than ever ! " is the leitmotiv of Taiwan's
ICT industry to nurture the nation's export markets. Undaunted
at a time of economic-political uncertainty, this island republic
dispatches its biggest mission ever to CeBIT 2003, and the most
numerous foreign contingent out of 70 nations to boot, with slightly
over 10% of the total turnout of 6.526 exhibitors.
Taiwan's economic authorities believe that the recession has
bottomed out by now, forecasting a nearly 4% GNP growth for 2003,
while the country's ICT industry expects this year's shipments
to surely grow higher than that.
Out of a the 655 Taiwan direct exhibitors on nearly 20.000 square
meters net, 478 SMEs (small and medium enterprises) participate
in those now familiar "Taiwan Pavilions", prominently
visible from far by their distinguished anthracite and bright
orange color design. The strict theme-orientation of these pavilions
in 11 halls allows buyers to see a maximum of suppliers without
distraction and, above all, demonstrates into what diversification
Taiwan's ICT industry has grown in the meantime:

Each pavilion has its own service office, where tri-lingual staff
of the organizer, Hannover Pacific Corp. in Taipei, will assist
you in any way they can. In addition, halls 9 and 12 boast special
promotion areas for Hannover Pacific Publications:
There, trade visitors can obtain, free of charge, the print and
CD-ROM editions of our buyers against proof of qualification (a
believable name card will do !) and subscribe to our e-papers
and the online edition of TAIWAN TECHNOLOGY, a periodic periodical,
specially targeted to those seasoned, die-hard "no-mercy"
Asia ICT tradesmen in constant search of the best deal; edited
and published in the sole interest of profit.
And now for something completely different:
Press Service ! Roughly 10.000 journalists from 70 countries
will cover CeBIT, and some of them will now find this here e-paper
in their mailbox, intended as a last-minute short form guide,
and a lone shot only
However, if some of you fellow writers should find it useful,
drop me an e-mail to remain on the mailing list; and should you
feel like skimming through my previous seven e-papers preceding
CeBIT, just punch www.taiwan-technology.com and click the "e-papers"
archive on the lower left hand navigation bar.
As accredited journalists, you have access to the third (association)
level of the press center, where you will find our "Deutsche
Messe AG Taiwan Office" pigeon hole with topical releases.
For language assistance, interviews and such, please call me at
(0172) 41 30 293 for an appointment, which could either be conveniently
in the press center or a theme pavilion. Just bear in mind: While
the CeBIT press center people continue to believe in the old superstition
of "no bar - no journalists ! ", we from Taiwan just
don't. But, surely, Chinese tea will always be on the boil there,
and a cup of Java as well!
So, see ya' all at Hannover - - Germany's incredibly provincial
hamlet that once a year turns into a Mecca for the world's ICT
aficionados !
Yours truly,
Dieter Neumann
